Top 3 this week

Here are our 3 favourite events happening this week

Ripley Reunion (July 31 – Aug 4, Ripley-Huron Community Centre & village core)

Every ten years the tiny hamlet of Ripley throws a party worthy of its “Ground We Grew Up On” motto, and 2025 is the year. Expect a mammoth parade, beard-growing and mullet contests, masked-singer showdown, bed races, golf tourney, nightly dances, fireworks and more. All stitched together by that unmistakable small-town hospitality. If you have ties to Huron-Kinloss (or just love classic country-fair fun) clear the whole Civic-Holiday stretch and bring the lawn chairs.

Electric Eclectics Festival (Aug 1 – 3, “Funny Farm,” Meaford)

Part wilderness camp-out, part avant-music summit, EE drops you on a hill overlooking Bighead Valley for three hazy days of boundary-pushing sound, site-specific art installations and late-night DJ sets under Orion. Bring a tent (or crash in the car). It’s quirky, welcoming and proudly labeled “Canada’s weirdest experimental music festival.”

Wiarton Homecoming Weekend (Aug 1 – 4, Bluewater Park & Downtown Wiarton)

The peninsula’s biggest civic-holiday bash packs live bands, fish-fry and pig-roast suppers, classic-car rows, a two-day lifestyle expo and Saturday night’s 250-drone light show over Colpoys Bay. Daytime tournaments, sidewalk sales and Sunday’s outdoor movie keep families busy, while the beer gardens and bingo tents pulse into the evening. It’s “for the community, by the community,” and Bluewater Park is the perfect hub for catching every flavour of Bruce-Peninsula fun in one stroll.

Community Calendar

Our Community Calendar was getting a bit too enthusiastic. Turns out stuffing a week’s worth of local fun into one email makes for a very long scroll.

So we’ve given it its own space! Click the button below to check out the full lineup of events this week.

Liesemer’s Home Hardware

Serving South Bruce from the same corner since 1873, Canada’s oldest Home Hardware still knows how to keep things fresh.

BBQ HQ - Napoleon grills, Blackstone griddles, Pit Boss smokers, and the county’s biggest wall of rubs & sauces! Ask about the griddle-insert upgrade for your existing grill and turn backyard burgers into a flat-top feast.

E-Bike Central - Test-ride a Canadian-built Taubik; weekend rentals count toward purchase and the in-house tech team keeps every ride tuned for those lake-loop adventures.

Foodie Flash

Casero Kitchen Table

Craving tacos that truly deliver? Slide over to Casero Kitchen Table, a colourful little hideaway in Owen Sound where the vibe is easy, the plates are sharable, and the margaritas mean business. This isn’t your average Tex-Mex. Think queso birria pork, roasted veggie tacos with zing, and housemade hibiscus lemonade that deserves its own fan club.

It’s the kind of spot where you can show up in flip-flops, order a taco trio, and still feel like you’ve treated yourself.

Bonus: your wallet won’t cry. Perfect for a spontaneous dinner or a midweek flavor adventure.

Pro tip: Don’t skip the queso. Ever.

Hidden Gem of the week

Good Family Farm Store

Tired of souvenir-shop crowds? Point your GPS to a gravel sideroad south of Meaford and look for the red barn that says Good Family Farms.

Inside you’ll find fridge cases packed with impossibly tender steaks, smoky maple bacon and eggs so orange they practically glow. Step outside and heritage pigs are busy doing pig-things while Belted Galloways mow the grass—no tour buses, just birdsong and the odd ‘oink’. Grab provisions for your next cottage cook-out, nab a jar of local honey for the ride home, and tell your city friends you spent the afternoon on a 600-acre secret they’ve never heard of.

Know a hidden spot that you want to share? This can be anything for a hike or waterfall to a off the beaten path farm store or ice cream shop! Reply to this email and let us know!
