Naagan

279 10th St E, Owen Sound

This week we are getting a little fancy…

Naagan is an intimate 17-seat spot offering a one-of-a-kind foraged feast of progressive Indigenous cuisine.

Chef Zach Keeshig serves an upscale multi-course tasting menu (around 9 courses) crafted entirely from hyper-local ingredients – if he hasn’t foraged or grown something himself, it’s sourced from local farmers, fishers or hunters.

This hidden gem has already earned national acclaim, landing on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants and Best New Restaurants lists.

Hidden Gem of the week

Bruce’s Caves – Wiarton’s Secret Caverns

Bruce’s Caves, tucked away in the woods near Wiarton at the base of Ontario’s Bruce Peninsula, offers a hidden world of natural caverns carved into the Niagara Escarpment.

Often described as a “hiker’s Narnia,” the caves provide a cool, otherworldly retreat on a hot day and a stunning photo-op for the adventurous traveler.

Bruce’s Caves aren’t just a geological marvel – they also come with a quirky backstory. The site is named after Robert Bruce, a Scottish settler-turned-hermit who made his home here in the late 1800s. Incredibly, despite owning land and having savings in the bank, Bruce preferred to spend his winters in these caves. He was an eccentric character; legend has it he even bathed outside in the frigid air every day of the year, embracing the wild solitude of this.
